In a move to combat the rising incidence of PIX scams, the Central Bank of Brazil has directed banks to implement an alert system. This measure, which will take effect in 2025, aims to protect consumers from fraudulent transactions.

The alert system will notify customers of potential scams before they complete a PIX transfer. Banks will use various methods to identify suspicious transactions, such as analyzing transaction patterns and monitoring for unusual activity. If a transaction is flagged as potentially fraudulent, the customer will receive an alert via SMS, email, or the bank's mobile app.

The Central Bank's initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the security of the PIX payment system. Banks are also implementing additional measures, such as transaction limits and enhanced authentication procedures, to safeguard consumers' funds.
