According to a recent study, beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família social welfare program in Brazil have transferred approximately 3 billion reais (approximately 570 million pounds) via the PIX instant payment system to betting sites. The study, conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Economics, found that the majority of these transfers were made in small amounts, with an average transaction value of around 50 reais (approximately 9.50 pounds). The study also found that the number of Bolsa Família beneficiaries using PIX for betting has increased significantly in recent months, with the number of transactions increasing by over 50% since the beginning of the year. The findings of the study have raised concerns among policymakers, who are worried that the use of Bolsa Família funds for betting could lead to financial problems for beneficiaries. The government has since announced that it will be investigating the issue and may take steps to restrict the use of PIX for betting purposes.
